DESIGNING
The visual direction was inspired by the bookstore’s vintage charm while keeping the interface modern and clean. I mixed classic serif typography with minimalist layouts with parallax effects and layered animations to create an atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and accessible.
To make the website feel more realistic and immersive, I incorporated videos in the style of vintage TV screens, including rare footage of Sylvia Beach herself speaking. This choice helped bring the story to life—so users aren’t just scrolling through text and images, but experiencing history in motion.
The color palette and design details were influenced by old book covers, warm Parisian interiors, and printed ephemera, ensuring each section captured the spirit of Shakespeare & Company.

DEVELOPMENT
The site was fully built in Framer, allowing for seamless integration of animations, transitions, and responsiveness without needing custom code. I explored Framer’s built-in features for scroll effects, hover interactions, and component-based design, which helped me prototype and iterate quickly. Text reveals, smooth card overlaps, and subtle transitions were all tested within the platform to keep the storytelling dynamic and fluid.

PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS
One key challenge was balancing rich visual storytelling with site performance and responsiveness. To address this, I optimized animations and carefully tested responsive layouts. Another challenge was presenting historical and literary content in an engaging yet digestible format—so I structured the narrative in short, visually distinct sections with clear visual hierarchy and pacing.
